If in the past, vocational training was considered a reluctant "stop" of students, but now, this reality has completely changed. Many parents and students actively choose vocational training as a thoughtful calculation for the future, even though their high school graduation exam scores are enough to be considered for good quality universities.

In 2018, Nguyen Hoang Long (Yen Mo district) got enough points to enter the University of Transport. However, before entering school, Long made a decision that made the whole family… sweaty: switch to vocational training.

“This decision does not make me regret. The more I learn the profession, the more I see that my choice is right. In vocational schools, the quality of study is not different from university level, while the cost of studying is lower. The curriculum follows reality, in addition, students can practice at enterprises, so they can quickly access the labor market. During my studies, I participated and won the Silver prize at the national vocational skills competition. This award is a push for me to be more motivated to assert my bravery, knowledge and skills. Currently, I have graduated from school and work with a salary of 12 million VND/month,” shared Nguyen Hoang Long.

Do Hoang Anh Tuan (Nam Binh ward, Ninh Binh city) had a more daring "turn the car". Mr. Tuan was in the middle of his first year of study, the University of Transport and Communications decided to leave and turned to an apprenticeship in automobile technology, Viet Xo College of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering. This decision of Mr. Tuan was opposed by the whole family, because for them, studying at a good university will promise more success in the future.

Mr. Tuan shared: Graduating from high school and entering a favorite university is the dream of most students, and so am I. But when I entered school, I really thought about what I needed, what kind of person I wanted to be in the future. So, even though I have almost finished my first year, I still decided to choose a career again. Studying hard to accumulate knowledge and good job skills, I believe that I will succeed.

Mr. Pham Ngoc Vu, Rector of Viet Xo College of Engineering and Construction said: In the past, many students chose to learn a trade because they did not pass the entrance exam to the university they wanted. Even, many students choose vocational training as a situational solution while waiting for the university exam next year to continue taking the exam. That is the main reason why students drop out in the middle of vocational schools.

However, this reality has now changed a lot. Vocational training is not a reluctant "stop" of students anymore. More and more parents and students choose a vocational school as a place to realize their career aspirations for the future. The cases of actively choosing vocational training, instead of going to university like Hoang Long, Anh Tuan are no longer unique.

The most obvious proof is that the recruitment work of vocational training institutions is increasingly improved. In 2022, as of September 10, the school has enrolled 1,650/1,815 students, reaching 90.9% of the assigned target. Notably, among students admitted to the school, the percentage of students graduating from high school with good scores or higher is also increasing.

Mr. Nguyen Huu Tuyen, Deputy Director of the Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs affirmed: Changing the perception of parents and students in choosing a career is very important. In fact, the situation of "excess teachers, shortage of workers", labor supply-demand mismatch has been quite common in recent years. Many students graduate from university but cannot find a suitable job, even many students have to save their bachelor's degree to work as a worker or re-learn another profession. Meanwhile, the demand for high-quality labor resources, skilled workers, technical workers ... of enterprises inside and outside the province is increasing.

Data from the Employment Service Center shows that indicators showing the needs of businesses for labor resources, especially trained workers, are continuously increasing. At the present time, there are about 15 units that regularly register for recruitment directly at the Job Exchange, in addition, there are over 70 units sending recruitment targets to more than 20,000 vacant positions, 9 labor export units have about 5 thousand quotas for traineeship and work in the Korean, Japanese, Taiwanese and some European markets with low cost and income from 20-60 million dong. …

The recruitment quota is very abundant, but the number of recruits is still at a level because there is no suitable recruitment source to meet the requirements of the business. The numbers showing the difference in labor "supply-demand" have contributed strongly to the perception, changing the concept of vocational training for parents and students themselves in recent years. .

Along with that, in order to change students' perception of vocational training, over the years, the Education and Training sector has also made great efforts in implementing counseling, career guidance, and study stream programs. born. Accordingly, every year, the Department of Education and Training has directed 100% secondary schools in the area to fully implement vocational education activities for 9th grade students with various forms: suitable for collective education activities, educational activities outside of class time; taught by class, taught in groups of classes, taught in blocks at production and business establishments in the area... by the homeroom teacher/team leader/school leader, with invitations of typical individuals in production and business in the area to participate in vocational guidance for students. In addition, many schools have been proactive and creative in orientation and streamlining for students of the remaining grades.

100% new students entering 10th grade at TVET-GDTX centers are all registered to attend vocational secondary schools according to their individual needs and strengths. On the basis of student registration, the Centers for Vocational Education and Training - Higher Education Centers deploy the placement of classes in accordance with the group of occupations that the students choose. At the same time, the VET centers have actively cooperated with colleges and intermediate schools with vocational training quality and reputation for training cooperation.

The occupations that are trained at intermediate level at the vocational training centers are very diverse, including: Automotive repair technology; Cooking techniques; Construction operation; Water supply and drainage; Corporate accounting; Electrical; Industrial electricity; Refrigeration and air conditioning engineering; Construction engineering; Weld; Metal cutting; Computer programming, Food processing... in line with the interests and aspirations of students and the needs of the labor market.
